The old saying ‘Knowledge is Power’ fits perfectly on the broad shoulders of Andreas Kyriakedes, for here is a man who learnt
every nuance, with regard to the art of wine making, all gained whilst working as a wine analyst within the government oinological department in Limassol.
Over the 15 years of employ within the department, he was able to study carefully, learn from others, and
eventually put into practise this wealth of knowledge when he opened his own winery in 1987. Not blessed with family land on
which to build, and coming from a poor family, money was very tight, but with the solid support of his wife Thelma and a forward
thinking bank manager, they took the plunge, and for five years they literally camped out on the site, with their three young children
as they worked to build their business brick by brick. This winery is now one of the countries success stories, with over half a million
bottles being produced annually.

A truly generous spirited man, Andreas sees other local wineries as being complimentary, and often assists with giving of his knowledge to other younger wine makers just starting up in the business.

|
If you don’t love this business, then don’t do it’ is his strongest piece of advice for anyone about to venture into commercial wine-making.
Wine after all is a living organism, and the winemaker who treats his soil and his vines with due respect and affection will always be the one who delivers quality in a glass. A minimum use of chemicals is also something that Andreas passionately believes in, he adds well below the EU recommended essential quota, and believes that his wine tastes all the better for it, which indeed must be correct as half a million bottles is one consistently satisfying result on an annual basis.

This almost ‘Green’ approach to his wine making extends to other areas of his life, there is a flourishing organic vegetable garden set at the rear of the winery, he and his family are also dedicated ramblers, taking off as often as they can to the mountains close by to hunt for mushrooms, wild fruits, and vegetables.
Both Thelma and Andreas are a passionate pair, and are deeply committed to continuing the consistent quality award given to the winery by its many thousands of satisfied customers. Cases leave this rather isolated winery which is just off the road leading to the village of Panayia, to then travel to customers based in the United States, and Europe.

Visitors stopping off en route to Panayia can also enjoy a bit of a wine tasting, and the opportunity to invest in a case or two of good quality wines. Watch out for the Maratheftico 2001-2003 due on the market shortly, this achieved one of the highest accolades at the recent wine exhibition in Thessalonika
